Dyall was born and raised
in Chennai, India. She spent her formative years studying at
the Harrington House School, Church Park and Stella Maris College.
By the time she was 21 she was a Bachelor of Fine Arts and looking
for a fashion school. When the National Institute of Fashion
Technology, opened its first center in South India, they chose
Chennai, and Amanda chose them. NIFT gave her a sound grounding
in the intricacies of Fashion Designing. With her Art studies
complimenting her Fashion sense, she graduated with honors from
NIFT in 1998.
and Fashion have always fascinated Amanda…”There
is something exhilarating about the art of fashion…the
art of dressing others. It is a sociological way we humans
have invented to communicate to others”, says Amanda.
She knows that deep down we all want to communicate with others;
we want to tell them if we are feeling happy, sad, sexy or
fashionable. And so many times we do that through our clothes.
Amanda knows…Fashion is her calling.
From being designer at
SWEAR and NAMA ( Bangalore) to being Manager – Merchandising
for TESCO Sourcing India (Bangalore),sourcing garments from
India, Sri Lanka & Bangadesh for the UK, Ireland and much
of Europe; Amanda has had a very exciting and rewarding career.
She taught part time at Nift, Bangalore and at the Shristi
School of Design, Bangalore. After a 5-year work experience
in the corporate world, Amanda started her own labels “Amanda”
and “Amanda Bachalli”. She has since then had
many fashion shows, many reviews and more importantly –
some extremely satisfied customers.
A visit to Amanda’s
studio in Bangalore can be intoxicating. The colors and textures
of material upon material…from linen to lycra…cotton
to chiffon…. everything will tempt your senses. This
is where structure, fit and form take shape; how a mere thought
can be transformed in a piece of clothing…and above
all how that piece of clothing can make you smile!
